As 2016 is coming to a close (LOL what), the holiday shopping season is in full swing this week with Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas! After surveying (stalking) countless brands over the years, I've found a few social media & online marketing trends businesses should stick to during their busiest season of the year. You should already have most of these in action, so think of this more as a checklist, and bookmark it for next year. ;)
CATER POST COPY TO YOUR NICHE
Copy in captions, on Facebook and in your email blasts are so important. Make sure you're talking directly to your consumer and tapping in on those emotions that will make them want to purchase your product for that specific person they have in mind. If you've already narrowed down your target audience and have given him/her a name – this will be easy!
MIX IN GRAPHICS WITH PRODUCTS
If you're constantly pushing product photos to your audience, they will always feel like their being sold too. Try to mix up your feed with fun holiday quotes, and for the sales add in some fun animated GIF's or videos that will reach more people on Facebook and Instagram.
PROMOTE YOUR POSTS
With all the noise this holiday season, simply posting on Facebook & Instagram daily might not give you the results you're looking for. Promote your posts, but do it strategically! Get creative with the Facebook carousel and break up your imagery across three photos. Try promoting an animated gif with your promo code that links back to your website OR upload a product demonstration or lifestyle video with your post. See some examples below!
HOP ON ALL THE HASHTAGS
Below are just a few hashtags I've found that are catered to some of the important days coming up. Mix these in on Instagram with your regular niche hashtags and you're sure to tap into a wide range of consumers, but your niche is the most important.
- #thanksgivingstyle #thankful #holiday #sharethecheer #givethanks
- #shopsmall #smallbusinesssaturday #shoplocal #smallbusiness
GIFT GUIDES FOR THE WIN
If you're trying to leverage Pinterest, gift guides are a huge hit. Not only should you craft guides that incorporate your products, but help promote other brands as well! Tag them in your posts, specifically if you're a small business promoting other small businesses. They could hit you up with a repost, regram or link back to your website. Community > Competition!
ENGAGE WITH OTHER BRANDS
Like mentioned above, community is better than competition, and the more you help promote and share others' content, good karma is headed your way! Of course your priority is selling your product, but think about ways to collaborate with other brands and organically comment on posts.
Most of these apply to the entire year, to be honest, but this season is the most important for small brands who need to push product sales. After the hustle and bustle of this season is over, take a step back and look at your social media plan for 2017. Start marking your calendar for the year ahead and as always, let me know if you need any help. I'm so excited to officially be offering full social media strategy and management packages for small businesses. Happy Holidays, y'all!
