In my latest series, we're talking about the newest trends in the digital and app world!
I'm always one to hop on the latest software updates and download the most recent versions of apps. Since I turned off my automatic downloads on my iPhone (saves a ton of battery, folks) it is actually pathetic the amount joy I get when there is that little number on the App Store for updates.
All that to say, with all the information on the internet every day, I know I get overwhelmed. So, I decided to start a weekly round-up on my blog of what went on in the digital/social world in a short & sweet list so you can go and impress all your friends with the knowledge I'm about to drop.
This week, the interwebs was pretty casual. No #dressgate or llamas, but there was an iOS update and a few app changes/updates that might be useful.
1. SNAPCHAT BFF UPDATE
Ruining friendships and making awkward situations one update at a time. Now, the 'best friends' list is displayed only on your personal snapchat, replaced with emoji's.
On your snapchat receivable list (the place where snaps are sent directly to you), you'll see there can be 0-6 emoji's beside a persons name. Here's the key and that's basically all you need to know.
Don't let the app's get to you about your friendships IRL. STAY STRONG.
2. iOS 8.3 IS RELEASED
Before you download and update from iTunes, take some time to read the information Apple prompts you with before you hit accept. There is some pretty useful updates that help glitches I've been noticing (i.e. auto-rotate glitching, keyboard freezing, phone screen freezing, etc) and you might too! You can also find that list here.
3. THERE ARE NEW EMOJI'S AND THE INTERNET FREAKS
Upgrade to iOS 8.3 and you'll have a few new emoji's including skin tones, country flags, a Star Trek reference (?) but NO taco emoji and that's all I have to say. (See Buzzfeed or Mashable if you want serious details about the reactions to the all new emoji's, LOL.)
4. NEW SERIAL EPISODES ARE UP APRIL 13th (!!!!)
This podcast series captured my attention because everyone was talking about it at the end of last year, so I listened to every episode from season one in about 2 weeks (while maintaining some social life).
If you haven't listened to the first podcast series, and like TV shows like Cold Case, CSI or need something new for long commutes, DO IT. The second series, titled Undisclosed will uncover more details from Adnan's lawyers and will air every 2 weeks starting April 13th.
5. POST NOTIFICATIONS FROM INSTAGRAM
Instagram is on a roll, so the next 3 tips apply to this app alone!
When you're following TONS of people, it's hard to keep track when your friends or brands post. SO, Instagram released a 'notification feature' that allows you to follow specific accounts and receive a notification when they have a new post. Simply head to the profile of the user and click the "..." at the top of their account - then select 'Turn on Post Notifications.'
This is super crucial for businesses + brand awareness because your consumers will always know when you have an update!
6. INSTAGRAM RELEASED A LAYOUT APP
For those who use PicFrame, Framatic, Frame-anything to merge photo's together, might as well hop on the Facebook Home screen takeover and download Layout for Instagram which lets you combine multiple photos in a single image, according to Instagram's Blog.
7. COLOR + FADE ON INSTAGRAM
Instagram also released new color and fading features if you're looking to tint highlights or shadows in your photo. This is of course if you really need to after you use VSCO or Afterlight in my opinion.
8. APPLE WATCH IS HERE AND WE'RE STILL LEARNING
Not really sure about the hype still because I didn't read through every article but Bloomberg covered it pretttty in depth. My two cents: Don't get it if you don't absolutely need it (aka, none of you). Because in one year when you actually have the money to get it, they'll have a new one, it'll be a LOT cheaper and there will be more improvements. Like everything else Apple. Although it is a pretty neat piece of tech and if I had a real use for it, sure I'd get it.
9. TIDAL IS OUT AND NOBODY'S TALKING ABOUT IT
In case you missed the release of the all new artist owned platform, Tidal – it's here. And I haven't heard anything about it this week. I'm still not seeing the value in switching over to Tidal with 'High Fidelity sound quality and curated editorial' from Spotify, but if you have insight on this and can back it up, let's talk about it in the comments!
Apparently this platform is completely artist owned, giving artists a chance to make revenue off the public who stream their music without purchasing singles or albums. (Um.....can we talk about their income already?)
If you have anything else to add to the Digital DL, leave me a comments below. I'm hoping that this weekly list will grow to be my research but also great tips and advice I receive from you!
